Chin Augmentation Surgery for Men

A weak chin can make a proportionately sized nose or other facial features stand out. Many men are dissatisfied with their profile because of a weak chin. If you feel like this, then a chin augmentation surgery could be right for you. This procedure defines the jawline to balance out facial features. Chin augmentation offers many different sizes and shapes for chin implants, so you can choose a specific look. With computer imaging, Dr. Petersen and the rest of the staff at NuVista Plastic Surgery will provide a natural looking, defined chin.

The Procedure

The chin implant surgery takes about 20 minutes to complete. It can be done under local anesthesia with sedation. The doctor will make a small incision that is hidden beneath the chin. The tissue is then gently stretched until there is enough room for the implant to lie directly on the bone. A customized silicone chin implant is inserted into the newly created space, directly on the jaw bone. Small sutures are then used to close the incision.

Post-Procedure

Everyone heals differently, but most men can return to work with three to four days after surgery and resume exercise in one to two weeks. Pain and discomfort are minimal and swelling and discoloration will subside within a few days. Dr. Petersen will remove the sutures after five days. It’s important to avoid actions that could jar or bump your chin for about six weeks, as the scar tissue that forms around the implant is essential and should remain undisturbed until fully healed.
