Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Surgery Procedures for Men – Draper, UT

We offer Blepharoplasty procedures for men.

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures for men, as it can rejuvenate and refresh the face. Eyes are often the first spot to show signs of aging. Wrinkles around the eyes and droopy eyelids can cause men to look more tired and older than they actually are. This procedure has the same basic principles for both men and women, but there are differences to consider when performing eyelid surgery on a male. At NuVista Plastic Surgery, we are experts in these differences and fully qualified to provide you with a safe, long-lasting procedure for patients in Draper, UT, and the surrounding areas.

We offer procedures for both upper eyelid and double eyelid surgeries.

Am I a Candidate for a Blepharoplasty Procedure?

The ideal candidate for eyelid surgery should be in good overall health and not have any eye conditions or allergies. This is typically performed on those who are 35 years of age or older, but it can be done on patients who are younger if necessary. A candidate should want to correct one or more of the following:

  • Sagging upper eyelids
  • Wrinkles underneath or around the eyes
  • Puffiness and dark spots beneath the eyelids
  • Excess skin in the lower eyelids

How to Prepare

Typically, you’ll need a medical evaluation before surgery to make sure that you have no persistent allergies or other eye conditions. You need to let the doctor know if you are on any medications, as they could possibly have an adverse effect on the results of the procedure. Patients also need to stop smoking and taking anti-inflammatory drugs well in advance, as it can cause complications during surgery and damage healing.

The Procedure

Traditional eyelid surgery from NuVista includes both lower and upper eyelid surgery. Lower eyelid surgery begins with an incision underneath the lower eyelashes. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed to eliminate the puffy appearance and create a taut, youthful look. Upper eyelid surgery includes a subtle incision in the natural fold of the upper eyelid, allowing Dr. Petersen to remove excess skin and fat tissue. Fat can also be added back into certain areas to form a more attractive contour.

Recovering from Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery for men requires you to keep your head elevated for the first few days to minimize swelling and bruising. Special lubricating ointment and cold compresses will also be applied to speed up recovery. Vision may be blurry and eyes may feel sensitive to light for a few days, but eye drops can alleviate these symptoms. It’s normal to return to work about a week after surgery, once sutures are removed. Bruising will usually resolve itself within about two weeks.
