Tummy Tucks for Draper, UT
For those with a little extra belly skin, abdominoplasty is a great option. Commonly known as a “tummy tuck”, abdominoplasty is a procedure that tightens sagging belly skin. Everyone can experience sagging belly skin, which can result from weak abdominal muscles or excess skin from weight gain or pregnancy. Pregnancy often splits the adnominal muscles to accommodate the growing baby.
No matter how much you may diet or exercise, there’s no way to remove the excess skin on your belly. Lasers or topical products aren’t much help, either. A tummy tuck is truly the best way to remove fat and skin while contouring the waistline. If you’re considering getting a tummy tuck, contact NuVista Plastic Surgery. We’ve helped patients across Draper, UT tighten their waistlines. Let us help you.
When you meet for a consultation, Dr. Petersen will take your complete medical history and complete an examination evaluating your overall health. The best candidates for tummy tuck patients have few health problems and only wish to remove an excess deposit of fat or loose abdominal skin. Our staff will take a before picture, so you can compare it to the picture we take after surgery. We’ll then prescribe antibiotics and other medications to prepare you for surgery and help prevent infection. In order to minimize the possibility of excess bleeding, you need to avoid taking any drugs that contain aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.
During your abdominoplasty surgery, you’ll be under general anesthesia. Surgery commonly takes between 2-5 hours, depending on your overall condition. We commonly perform the procedure at our AAAASF certified operating site, the Gold Standard in accreditation for surgery facilities, unless you have a health condition that requires surgery to be completed at the hospital.
The tummy tuck procedure is performed by making a U-shaped incision below one hipbone, across the pubic area and under the other hipbone. A second incision is made around the navel. The skin will then be separated from the abdominal wall and lifted up to the hipbone, exposing loose tissue that covers the abdominal muscle. We’ll then tighten loose muscles with sutures, and excess skin and fat are removed. The skin will be then lowered over the abdomen and we’ll reconstruct the navel. The incisions are then sutured together. Drains may be inserted to eliminate fluid buildup.
Patients typically experience minor discomfort after surgery. This can be controlled with pain medication. Swelling is also normal and could last between 6-8 weeks. You’ll receive special instructions for showering and changing your dressings. You might also be required to wear a support garment for up to 6 weeks. We advise that you take 1 to 2 weeks to rest before returning to work. Scars are also normal and often take 9 to 12 weeks to fade.
